This picture is a simple state of Big Data in 2017. It is not all encompassing like Matt Turck’s or the one Forbes did, but it should give the casual reader a simple understanding of what this market looks like today. I organized it into two large silos & several smaller ones to delineate where individual leaders lay in relation to each other. You can download it by right-clicking it.
This is a business technology diagram and it’s goal is to simply explain the interaction between major tech silos and how they compare to each other in terms of solution and business complexity. We call this diagram the EA Lego Block (click here or the picture to download it).
Security/Audit and Data/Analytics have their own large blocks on the right as they are (in my view) glue that hold the smaller blocks together. Obviously data is generated at all levels so it is placed on the far right. App Development is in the middle since it is basically a cross-roads silo between Application and Core Services.
Enterprise Architecture is the bare bones decision layer and is fairly easy to understand. The Innovation Culture layer (i.e. could also be called Corporate Leadership) is more important as a deciding factor as you go up the lego tech stack since it speaks to the openness of decision makers to higher end solutions.
